The UNIFIL and peace-keeping in Lebanon: a delicate mission [1]

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) established in 1978 has been the target of many critics. This paper intends to set up a short balance sheet of the UNIFIL actions regarding the armory of illicit weapons in Lebanon. Without pretending to a comprehensive evaluation of the UNIFIL’s actions, this paper highlights some of the major obstacles that prevent the UNIFIL from being fully efficient and makes some suggestions for improvement.
